01 ยท Situation

The heat has nowhere left to go

Heatwaves cost Europe billions and make cities unhealthy. Air conditioning only moves heat out of the building and into the street.

In a run of tropical nights, deaths rise 12 to 17%. A body cannot recover when the city is still 30 °C at midnight. Hungary's National Public Health Centre has measured 26% in one heatwave.

Cosmic cooling

A radiant coating reflects sunlight and radiates the rest out through the atmosphere to space. The heat leaves the city instead of moving around inside it. It needs no power and has no moving parts, and any painting contractor can apply it. The technology has been proven for decades, the coating lasts, and it is one of the cheapest and fastest cooling measures available.

Diagram: sunlight strikes a coated roof and is reflected, while heat radiates from the coating outward, giving a net heat loss to space
Passive radiative cooling. Reflected sunlight plus radiated heat give a net loss to space, day and night.

The technology has been known for decades, yet almost no roofs use it. Why?

03 ยท Conflict

The coating works. The market does not.

Habit

Black and red roofs are specified because that is what roofs look like. Nobody experiences it as a decision.

Split benefit

The owner captures a lower cooling bill. The cooler street goes to the neighbours, who pay nothing for it.

No public-good funding

European instruments pay against measured savings inside the building. Street-level cooling is not an eligible cost line.

Cost of finding the buyer

Every decision needs a site visit and an audit first, so winning a customer costs more than the margin on the work.

04 ยท Our solution

We find the buyer from orbit

We assess every commercial roof in a city remotely, before anyone climbs a ladder, and show each owner the temperature of their own roof and the euros it would save.

Measure

Summer surface temperature and measured roof reflectance for every roof in the city, from public Earth-observation archives processed by our own model.

Price

An annual euro saving for each roof, calculated from local sunshine, local electricity tariffs and the local climate, including the extra winter heating cost in cities that have one.

Name

We identify the company that occupies each roof, so the offer reaches the business that pays the energy bill.

Verify

The same satellites measure the roof again after the work. Certificate issuers, lenders and auditors all ask for that record.

05 ยท Market size, measured roof by roof

€50.9 million a year, on the roofs of four cities

Every dot is a real roof between 2,000 and 10,000 m², measured and priced. On roofs this size the occupier usually pays the energy bill, so the company that saves the money is also the one that signs the contract.

Each city is scanned across its full administrative area; Athens means the Athens basin, from Piraeus to Kifisia. Only mid-sized roofs are counted here, so every figure is a minimum. The same method across the whole of Hungary finds 16,796 mid-sized roofs worth €74.9M a year.

06 ยท Work with us

We are opening in Spain, then Greece

Our first city will be Madrid or Seville, and Greece follows, starting with the Athens basin. In each country we are looking for a partner with a network in energy efficiency, building services, industry or municipal administration. We also want to hear from municipalities and NGOs that want measured cooling on private roofs at no public cost.

Every roof on the map is already measured and priced. Write to us if you want to discuss working together.
